Tamasha - a personal review
The movie is based on a middle class person's dream which he/she seeks to escape into an virtual reality.
I would like to split the movie in 2 parts- Before Interval and After Interval. But before that let us discuss the pros and cons of the movie.
Pros
# The best thing about the movie is its Music which was composed by the maestro A R Rahman and Cinematography- S. Ravi Varman and team deserves standing ovation for their work.
# The movie upto the interval is fast paced, poised and balanced with occasional flips and flops but the story stays good till the very end of the first phase of the movie.
# Acting of Deepika as Tara and Ranbir as Ved are good but not great.
# Editing by Tamasha team was good and deserves thumbs up.
# Piyush Mishra's role as the story teller was as solid as it could have got. Some of the dialogues told by him in the first half of the movie seemed remarkable and blended with soothing music felt mesmerising.
Cons
# Direction: Not at par with Imtiaz Ali's previous directorial whether Rockstar or JWM. It was at par to his movie like Socha Na Tha but I expected better.
# The movie becomes a monotonous gloom after the interval. Maybe because of the trailer but it was obvious that the movie would end with a positive note. There was no twist or turn like his movies namely Highway, Rockstar or JWM. Even Socha Na Tha was better in terms of that.
# Dhanush's performance in Moonu or 3 was the best acting I ever saw whenever I think of split personality. Ranbir wasn't even near that.
# unlike Imitiaz Ali's other movie there was nothing new, fresh or surprising about the movie except Corsica.
Now let me give you a glimpse on the storyline. It's no doubt a love story.
In the first half of the movie, the movie seemed immensely interesting. The entire Tamasha crew deserves applause for certain scenes in Corsica like the one in which Ranbir plays football with some local kids and Deepika jut sits on the paved floor and acts so naturally. That entire shot was an epic one.
The first half was full of music and flowed smoothly and the music, acting and the entire stuff looked admissibly beautiful.
Piyush Mishra started to weave a story with beautiful overlaps and the boyhood of Ved started to breathe within that tale. But life is beyond childhood. Ved grows up into a handsome and meets Tara in the dreamland called Corsica. They live like Don and Mona in the cascade of Corcisa's scintillating world of life, freedom and joy. With a promise never to meet they depart from eachother's company.
Tara aka Mona can't forget Don. Time ages Tara and then...well, then the inevitable happens Ranbir tries to deliver, do delivers till the interval but thats it. He falls apart taking the story alongwith him. Only except certain sparks of great acting Ranbir floats on the linearity of good acting and slowly sinks throughout the part beyond the interval in a sea of monotone. Good movie but Tamasha team had elements to do a way better movie.

Its a good movie. It's an one time watch talking about discussing mostly about how moderate class people sacrifices their dreams. They just live and die staying average their entire life. An honest movie with an illusive conclusion.
My Say: Life is real, not a fable. Better work and live, rather than running after illusions and perish while trying. Thank You.
